Take the way to sustainability through regeneration

For many old industrial cities regeneration is necessary to become sustainable. A great case of this is the Globe Award winning project in Cardiff, Wales, UK.

Cardiff Bay 1980's - Cardiff Bay today

Cardiff has shown a deep understanding of the importance of moving towards a knowledge based economy within a holistic perspective on sustainability. Cardiff demonstrates practices of a sustainable city with highly creative services and innovation. It is clearly shown that sustainable development and economical development go hand in hand in Cardiff.

An interesting choice, given that the main opposition to the Cardiff Bay development in the 1980s and 1990s concerned its environmental impact (particularly on wildlife habitats). You might also want to consider the relationship between the waterside developments and the still deprived areas of Butetown in the traditional docklands neighbourhoods less than a mile away.
